2019-2020 MRMS After School Clubs

Fees may apply. Information will be available from advisor. Meeting dates are subject to change or cancellation.

Art Club - Mrs. Concannon -
Room 215 - Art Club calendar

The art club allows students the opportunity to create artwork beyond the regular art curriculum. Because of the club setting, student work can be more personal and individualized than work done in art class. The club also provides an outlet for students who want to create art throughout the school year. The setting will be informal and students do not need to attend every meeting date in order to join. 

Chorale - Mrs. Simko -

Chorale is a select vocal ensemble that performs at the Winter and Spring Concerts, Choralfest, and any other venues deemed educationally worthy by the Director during the school year.  Students do not need to be in Chorus to be in Chorale, but participation in Chorus or Band is strongly encouraged.  Literature will consist of music pulled from across the spectrum of choral literature with an emphasis on advanced a cappella repertoire.

Jazz Combo - Mr. Fecke -

Thursday 2:30-3:30 Band Room

Jazz Combo is open to all members of the MRMS band program via audition. Jazz Combo performs at the Arts Night, teacher appreciation luncheons and many other venues. Our music is pulled from across the spectrum of jazz with an emphasis on swing and improvisation.

History Fair - Mr. Walker -

This program allows motivated students an opportunity to pursue a topic of interest in great depth, create a unique project to be entered in the District Competition in March, hone critical thinking & source evaluation skills, work with highly successful high school mentors, and most importantly have a ton of fun. The meetings for prospective History Fair participants begin on Monday 9/30/19 and are held every other Monday from 2:20-3:00 in room 221. Students can participate even if Mondays are a problem. (Meetings alternate Mondays with College Bowl)

Jazz Band - Mr. Fecke -
Friday 2:30-3:30 Band Room

Jazz Band performs at the Winter and Spring Concerts as well as any other venues deemed educationally worthy by the Director during the school year.  The repertoire will consist of music pulled from across the spectrum of jazz with an emphasis on swing and some improvisation.

Math Team - Mr. Sweitzer -
Thursday 2:30-3:20 Room 108

The math team is composed of students from 6-8 grade. It is open to all interested students. Throughout the school year, the team competes in five math meets with other middle schools from the North Shore. For four of the meets, the team travels to a host school. Students return to Miles River Middle School by 6 pm. Between meets, the team gathers to practice math problems to prepare for the next meet.

Guitar and Ukelele Club - Ms. Linkin -

Do you play guitar, ukulele or another string instrument? If you'd like to have fun playing your instrument with other students after school, come join the MRMS Guitar-Ukulele Club! If you are a beginner or have experience, all students are welcome to join. There are 25 classroom guitars and 25 classroom ukuleles for students to use. Please contact Ms. Linkin with any questions.

One Act Playwriting Workshop - Ms. and Ms.

Annually, Miles River Middle School participates in the Massachusetts Educational Theatre Guild’s One Act Play Festival. Miles River offers a playwriting workshop open to 20 students who will write, develop, design, produce, and perform their original work for competition at this year’s festival. Further details about auditions will be announced this January!

Yearbook Club - Ms. Wilson -

October - December 2019-meets one Tuesday per month; January - April 2020-meets two Tuesdays per month (additional meetings may occur)

Be part of creating the MRMS yearbook! Looking for students interested in contributing writing, photos and to assist with layout and design. Email Ms. Wilson or stop by the HW Tech Help Desk with any questions.

Middle School Musical - Ms. deLima -

Our annual production is an opportunity for singing, dancing, acting, and backstage work for students at any grade level. This year our musical will be Matilda. Students who would like information about auditions, the rehearsal process and ways to get involved should attend an informational meeting on Tuesday 9/19/19 from 2:30-3:15 in the band room. Please contact Ms. deLima with any questions. 

Miles River Buddies - Mrs. Simone -

Miles River Buddies is a program intended to connect students with their peers in a safe and fun environment. We will play a variety of board games and participate in several hands-on arts and crafts activities throughout the year. Meetings are informal and all are welcome. We will meet the first and third Tuesday of each month beginning Tuesday 10/1/19. 

GSA (Gender Sexuality Alliance)
Ms. Sidlowski and Ms. Mangiarelli

The Gender and Sexuality Alliance is intended to provide a safe space for students to discuss issues related to the LGBTQ+ community. Students will share in guided group discussions around topics such as current events, representation in media and inclusivity in modern culture. This club welcomes students who are committed to empathetic and respectful social dialogue. We meet every other Monday from 2:30-3:25 in room 202 beginning on 9/23/19

Student Council - Ms. Snyder - and Ms. Wilfert

Student Council will meet on 2 Thursdays each month to help coordinate school wide community service efforts such as food drives, Pennies for Patients and the Memorial Day Assembly. We also coordinate spirit weeks and grade level parties and activities such as movie nights and the 6th grade Halloween party. Students must submit a complete application by 9/20/19 to be considered for the Fall 2019 ballot. Grade 8 students who are elected to the general council can run for an officer position on Election Day in November.
