Library Resources

All books except reserve and reference books may be borrowed for a period of two weeks. A book may be renewed for an additional two weeks if no one else has requested it.

Reference books may not be taken from the library except by a teacher for class use that day or by special permission from the librarian.

Reserve materials are of two types: closed reserve and overnight reserve. Materials placed on closed reserve may not be taken from the room at any time. Materials placed on overnight reserve may be taken out for one night at a time. These materials must be returned to the library by 8:00 a.m. the following morning. Any student not returning the reserve material by that time will be given an administrative detention. At the discretion of the librarian or the teacher placing the material on reserve, certain overnight material may not be taken from the library until after 2:00 p.m.

There are no fines for overdue books. However, if a book is overdue the student will not be allowed to check out additional books until the overdue book is returned. If a student has not returned a book by the end of the school year his/her name will be sent to the main office where he/she will be dealt with administratively.

Students will be required to pay the full cost of library materials that are lost or permanently damaged. If a book is lost the student should promptly notify the librarian. Any student who fails to pay for lost or damaged materials may, after proper warning and notification, be subject to disciplinary measures until restitution is made.

Eating and drinking are not allowed in the library media center or in the silent study area (room 400).

Middle School students get passes from academic support teachers to come to the library for library books, to do research, or to use the computers. They may also come before or after school to use the library media center.

Students are free to use the library during study halls after having received a pass from the library media specialist or the library assistant. Any errands or activities such as:  going to lockers, guidance, etc. must be taken care of before coming to the library to eliminate unnecessary traffic. High School students must stay in the library until the end of the block. There is a limit to the number of students per block, however, students may get a pass for the current day or the day following.

Students must sign in at the circulation desk and put the pass in the box next to the sign in book. The library is open at 7:00 a.m. and students can work before school if needed. The hours are also extended after school until 3 p.m. on W & F, and 3:30 p.m. on M, T, & TH. 

The library has a 3M book detection system. Any student caught removing library materials without checking them out may have a parent contacted and be subject to suspension since this constitutes theft.
