State Tournament Update: 6/16/25 (7:00 AM)
HW Girls Tennis (18-2, CAL Champs, CAL Sportsmanship Winners) defeated Manchester-Essex yesterday at duPont Tennis Courts on the campus of MIT, 5-0 in the MIAA Division IV State Tournament to capture their fourth consecutive State Championship. The Generals raced out to an early lead in each match and never looked back.
The victory caps an incredible season for the Generals that was vastly different from their recent championship runs. The gritty group, which featured a mix of veterans in new leadership roles and rookies looking to make their mark, went 7-2 in matches decided by the score of 3-2. This experience served them well in the Final Four match against Lynnfield. With the match tied, 2-2, all eyes at St. John's Prep. were on the conclusion of the First Doubles match, knotted at a set a piece. Back and forth they went, forcing a deciding tie-breaker in the third set, which HW won, 5-4. The victory set up yesterday's culminating match at MIT in the State Finals.
