State Tournament Updates (11/13/25 - 9:30 AM)
HW Girls Soccer (CAL Champs, 15-1-5) dropped a tough game last night to Cohasset at home, 2-0 in the Elite Eight Round of the MIAA Division IV State Tournament. After the teams battled through a scoreless first half, the game's intensity ratcheted up after the intermission with both teams creating several scoring chances. The Skippers broke the ice with about 11:00 remaining in regulation on a free kick from the far side of the field. An insurance goal several minutes later provided Cohasset all the insurance they would need.
The Generals concluded another incredible season and extended their historic run that has seen them earn six straight CAL Championships. The student crowd loudly and appropriately summed it up at the game's conclusion, with serenades of, "Thank You Seniors!" Truly a remarkable run in the program's history.

HW Boys Soccer (CAL Champs, 15-3-2) fell at home yesterday in Double Overtime to Gardner High School, 2-1 in the Sweet Sixteen Round of the MIAA Division IV State Tournament. The Wildcats scored mid-way through the first half to take and hold the lead through halftime. The physical, fast, and skilled game continued into the second half and saw both teams have terrific scoring opportunities. Gardner's keeper thwarted several General's opportunities throughout the second frame and it looked like the guests from Gardner would take the victory in regulation. However, HW found the back of the net in penalty time at the end of regulation to send the crowd into to frenzy and extend the game. The first OT was scoreless but Gardner scored just moments into the second OT to secure the victory.
Congratulations to the Boys Soccer team and its Seniors who conclude a great season having earned their fourth CAL Division Title in the last five years.
HW Boys & Girls Cross Country (Each CAL Champs) earned Runner-Up honors this past weekend in the Division 3B Championships at Fort Devens. HW Volleyball (CAL Champs, 10-12) fell to top seeded Bourne High School earlier this week, 3-0 in the Sweet Sixteen Round of the MIAA Division IV State Tournament. The Generals gave Bourne all they could handle early and played each of the first two sets close for a while. Ultimately, the Canalmen pulled away in each of those sets despite several intense rallies. Facing elimination, HW stiffened and pushed Bourne to the brink in the third and final set before the defending State Champs were able to close out the match.
Despite the loss, the Generals' season had many highlights. Earning their first CAL Division Championship since 2017, the Generals again advanced in the State Tournament.to the Sweet Sixteen round for the 5th year in a row.

HW Field Hockey (6-9-4) fell to the 7th seeded Panthers of Quabbin Regional High School, 3-0 in the 1st Round of the MIAA Division IV State Tournament. The Generals gave the hosts from Barre all they could handle but QRHS kept applying pressure and never allowed the Generals to capitalize on their chances.
After a scoreless 1st Quarter that saw HW turn away several of Quabbin's corner opportunities, it looked like the game would head to Halftime without a score. But the Panthers scored off a corner with less than :10 left to break the stalemate. After the break, the Generals mounted several offensive runs and earned several corners of their own. But Quabbin's defense around the goal was exceptional and thwarted every HW attempt. Quabbin extended their lead mid way through the 4th Quarter and added an insurance goal near the 4:00 mark.
Congratulations to the HW Field Hockey squad and its Seniors who qualified for the State Tournament for the fourth time in the last five years.
